Morocco is set to commemorate, on Thursday, May 8, the 22nd birthday of Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan—an occasion of national joy and pride that reflects the enduring bond between the Moroccan people and the Alaouite throne. This celebration represents a symbol of unity, loyalty, and continuity that defines the nation’s identity.
On May 8, 2003, the Royal Palace rejoiced in the birth of the Crown Prince, whose name—Moulay El Hassan—was chosen by King Mohammed VI in honor of two monumental figures in Moroccan history: Sultan Hassan I and King Hassan II. The naming serves as a tribute to a legacy of leadership, reinforcing the principles of loyalty, stability, and national unity.
Each year, the Moroccan people join the Royal Family in celebrating this event, reaffirming their unwavering attachment to the monarchy and their trust in King Mohammed VI as the symbol of cohesion, security, and progress.
This year’s celebration is also a moment to highlight the Crown Prince’s growing presence in public life. Over the past year, Prince Moulay El Hassan represented the monarchy in various national and international events, reinforcing his role as a future leader.
Notably, the Crown Prince presided over the opening of the 17th International Agricultural Exhibition in Meknes and launched the “Ramadan 1446” solidarity initiative alongside Princess Lalla Khadija. He also welcomed Chinese President Xi Jinping during his visit to Casablanca and oversaw several major royal and state events, including military graduation ceremonies and traditional equestrian tournaments.
On June 10, he supervised the groundbreaking of the Casablanca Seawater Desalination Plant—the largest in Africa—demonstrating Morocco’s commitment to sustainable development and securing water resources for over 7.5 million people.
As Morocco celebrates this special day, it also reflects on the Crown Prince’s active engagement and evolving role within the national and international stage, a testament to the country’s deep-rooted traditions and vision for the future.
