In a significant step towards enhancing the country’s transportation infrastructure, King Mohammed VI, May God Grant Him Victory, officially launched the construction of the Kenitra-Marrakesh high-speed rail line (LGV), which will span approximately 430 kilometers, at the Rabat-Agdal railway station this Thursday.
High-Speed Rail: A New Milestone in Travel Between Major Cities
This ambitious project aims to revolutionize transportation in Morocco by dramatically reducing travel times between major cities. Once the new high-speed line is operational, the journey between Rabat and Tangier will be reduced to just one hour, while the trip between Tangier and Casablanca will take only one hour and forty minutes, marking a major time-saving improvement between these two key cities.
Furthermore, travel time between Tangier and Marrakesh will be shortened to just two hours and forty minutes, a saving of over two hours. The project will also provide a 35-minute connection between Rabat and Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca, as well as direct access to the new sports stadium in Ben Slimane.
Expanding Services to Fes and Marrakesh
The project doesn’t stop at these milestones; it also includes a high-speed rail link between Fes and Marrakesh, with a journey time of just three hours and forty minutes. The high-speed trains will travel on conventional tracks from Fes to the northern part of Kenitra, before switching to the new high-speed lines to continue the journey to Marrakesh.
A Project That Contributes to National Economic Growth
This project is a major step in improving Morocco’s transportation network. It will enable faster connections between key cities, contributing to the economic development of the nation by enhancing the flow of people and goods. Additionally, it is expected to significantly boost the tourism sector by making travel between Morocco’s main cities more efficient and convenient.
Investing in the Future
By launching this project, King Mohammed VI, May God Grant Him Victory, demonstrates Morocco’s ongoing commitment to developing its infrastructure and providing high-quality transportation services to its citizens. This project is one of the largest infrastructure initiatives in Morocco, marking a significant advancement in sustainable development and the economic modernization of the country.
