As Chairman of the 2030 World Cup Organizing Committee, Lekjaa emphasized that the upcoming tournament is an extension of King Mohammed VI’s visionary leadership, which places sustainability at the core of Morocco’s public policy strategies. He underlined that the joint organization with Spain and Portugal presents a historic opportunity to accelerate Morocco’s sustainable development goals, using sports as a driver of urban, social, and economic transformation—fully aligned with the nation’s New Development Model.

During the event, Morocco’s main sustainability pillars for the 2030 World Cup were presented, including:
Investments in renewable energy to power sports infrastructure with clean electricity.
Innovative water resource management, in response to growing climate challenges.
An integrated waste management system combining composting and material recovery.
Lekjaa also stressed the importance of integrated governance, including innovative financing mechanisms such as carbon funding, promotion of local knowledge, and the inclusion of all Moroccan regions—even those not directly hosting matches.

🤝 International Praise for Morocco’s Approach
Mark Bowman, Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), described Morocco’s approach as “exemplary,” noting the country’s ability to align climate commitments with sports development. He cited green initiatives financed in Morocco, including green bonds issued by the city of Agadir and the National Railways Office (ONCF).
UNDP Resident Representative in Morocco, Ilaria Carnevali, also praised the Kingdom’s efforts, affirming that sports represent a true lever for sustainable development. She welcomed Morocco’s ambition to embed environmental considerations into a comprehensive and inclusive sports project.
