Morocco has officially set November 2025 as the launch date for its 5G network, marking a pivotal step in the country’s digital transformation journey. The phased rollout will begin in major urban centers and gradually extend nationwide, with full coverage aimed by 2030.
According to L’Économiste, which cites a senior official from the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT), the commercialization of 5G services is expected to start just before the kickoff of the Africa Cup of Nations. This gives telecom operators roughly six months to test equipment, allocate frequency bands, and finalize technical requirements and service plans.
The first phase of deployment will prioritize Morocco’s largest cities, with strategic locations such as industrial zones, universities, research centers, offshoring hubs, and key sectors like automotive and aerospace scheduled for early access. The national strategy, Digital Morocco 2030, sets a target of reaching 25% population coverage by the end of 2025.
By 2030, the aim is to cover 70% of the Moroccan population, ensuring full national 5G coverage in time for the FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host. This development will not only enhance the live broadcasting of global sporting events but also strengthen international digital connectivity and access to high-speed internet.
The impact of 5G is expected to be transformative across various sectors. Smart transportation systems will enable better traffic management, while smart homes and industrial automation will benefit from faster and more reliable connectivity. Agriculture, public services, and administrative digitalization will also see significant advancements.
Furthermore, 5G is anticipated to accelerate Morocco’s digital governance efforts, streamline online services, and boost the country’s global competitiveness by modernizing its technological infrastructure.
